2024 Aquarius New Moon

Heads up! It's been a while since we've experienced such a powerful New Moon for creating change in the world. If you're a fan of intention-setting, affirmations, and cultivating a positive attitude, the 2024 Aquarius New Moon may be just the moment you've been waiting for.

After all, who is more responsible for your Reality-bubble than you?

About the New Moon in Aquarius

The annual Aquarius New Moon occurs between Jan. 19 and Feb. 17. From the point of view of the Northern Hemisphere, the long winter is almost over. Light begins to return to the world. Still, our energies are depleted, our passions are at a low, and we must think before we act. It’s no surprise then that the Sun, which yearns to celebrate its vitality and creativity, is said to be “in detriment” here -- which is just a fancy way of saying it’s out of its comfort zone.

As a Saturn-ruled air sign, reason and self-discipline win the day under an Aquarius New Moon. Here, the logical, order-generating principle is poured out to humanity. Like Star Trek’s Mr. Spock, there’s intelligence, keen observation and a detached compassion for other beings. But, on the dark side, there’s also a kind of intellectual stubbornness, especially if you’re attached to your beliefs.

The secret to success under an Aquarian New Moon is to maintain your sense of perspective. Being too close to your challenges makes them harder to solve. Take a step back, and you’ll find a clear path through whatever is in front of you. Then, take it one step at a time.

2024 Aquarius New Moon Horoscope

February’s 2024 New Moon is moving faster than usual since it occurs near its closest approach to Earth. Tides run higher, and so does our need to get moving. Going with your gut just feels right, and you may want to follow it (even if it’s you look back and discover it wasn’t the best move after all.) When in doubt, get a second opinion from a trusted friend with a more objective point of view.

This New Moon squares off with an iconoclastic Uranus in Taurus. Uranus likes to shake up the status quo so we don’t get too set in our ways. Above all, Uranus seeks the freedom for soul-centered self-expression, even if it means upsetting our cozy nest to do it. If there’s change you’ve been itching to make, this New Moon may be the kick in the pants you need to get moving.

Saturn in Pisces lords over the Aquarius New Moon. Saturn likes to feel grounded, pragmatic and structured, all things that may feel strange to unbounded Pisces. At the lunation, he’s feeling supported by Pisces ruler Jupiter. Jupiter usually wants us to connect to our loftier impulses. He gravitates toward truth, justice and integrity. But when he’s traveling through Taurus, he’s also easily distracted by life’s sensual pleasures. In other words, he may be more concerned with feeling good than being good.

Nevertheless, Jupiter’s whispering hints to Saturn on how to make the most of his time in Pisces. Top on his list? Make time for your spiritual practice; there’s no better remedy for what ails you than to plug into your Source, however you define that. Just don’t make feel like work, relaxing and smelling the roses may be the most potent practice of all.

There’s another tool in your kit. The 2024 Aquarius New Moon falls in the 25th Lunar mansion, Al Sa'd al Ahbiya. I nicknamed it the Butterfly because its cocoon-like energy nourishes and protects what you are becoming. Its energy is ideal for when you need a new beginning; tap into it when you are ready for deep transformation. Take a break, reset, and start again with fresh eyes and energy.

In other news, nothing is retrograde right now, so there’s less encouragement to think before leaping into action. That can be good if you’ve been feeling stuck lately. Or, you may find yourself in over your head, if you have leaped into the deep end of things. Your best solution to either is to keep an eye on what’s important to you; if you use that as your guiding star, you’ll be able to find your way through no matter what life throws at you.

Finally, there’s an interesting subplot percolating in the background over the next few weeks. The love goddess Venus is sneaking up behind feisty Mars. They’ll both leave Capricorn and enter Aquarius within a few days of each other, independently meet up with Pluto, and then finally connect with one another on Feb. 22. It’s a constellation that can bring a deep burst of creativity in any area of your life. But it’s especially potent for understanding the relationship between your inner masculine and feminine polarity (which, of course, can have a profound effect on your outer word relationships too.) You may need a little extra me time mid-month to explore this potent combination.

Best Approach to 2024 Aquarius New Moon

What do you get when you consider all those bits? It’s a profound month for making a change in your world. You may feel the urge to express the REAL you, in whatever way you define that. You’ll get the best results if you remember you first must “know thyself,” and use that understanding to set your course. So, make a little time every day to check in with yourself, then you’ll feel more secure exploring all that the cosmos has to offer.

"One must know oneself. If this does not serve to discover truth, it at least serves as a rule of life, and there is nothing better."
