Aquarius Horoscope 2024

The maxim "It's always darkest before the dawn," applies to the Aquarian experience. It's both the tower the Ego builds to protect and preserve itself, as well as the lightning bolt that knocks us off our exalted perch. Aquarius lessons teach detachment and limits, as well as breakthroughs and innovation.

But each year, thanks to an ever-moving sky, Zodiac signs manifest a little differently. So, let’s dive into the astrological energies that set the 2024 Aquarius Season apart from other years.

If you want to learn more about what the Zodiac sign Aquarius means, check out my post on how to Make the Most of Aquarius Season.

This year, the Sun enters Aquarius on Jan. 20, 2024, at 9:07 a.m. Eastern U.S., and remains there until Feb. 18, 2024, at 11:13 p.m. Eastern U.S. Here's the solar chart for the 2024 Aquarius ingress:

2024 Aquarius Ingress Astrological Data

  • Sun’s Zodiac Sign: Aquarius
  • Aspects to the Sun: Sun trine Moon in Gemini
  • Location of Sign Ruler: Saturn in Pisces
  • Aspects to the Sign Ruler: Jupiter in Taurus sextile Saturn; Mercury in Capricorn sextile Saturn
  • Location of the Moon: Gemini
  • Aspects to the Moon: Moon trine Sun in Aquarius
  • Important Upcoming Aspects this month: Pluto enters Aquarius; Mars exalted & out of bounds

Now let’s get into what sets the 2024 Aquarius Season apart from those in other years.

As this Aquarius season begins, the Sun’s harmonizing with a happy-go-lucky Moon in Gemini. The Moon sets the emotional tone of the season; while it’s in Gemini it’s on the lookout for new ideas and experiences. Together the two encourage the practice of non-attachment. If it’s not working, let it go. And even if it is working, don’t cling to the situation. All things change, and suffering comes from holding on too tightly.

It’s a philosophy also explored by Aquarius’ ruler Saturn as it swims through Pisces. Saturn likes it best when things are grounded, practical, even predictable. However, watery Pisces is much like the ocean; it’s wide, vast, and difficult to pin down in concrete ways. Saturn’s also learning the power of embracing the present moment.

Saturn joins in an easy-going conversation with Mercury in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus. While he’s in Capricorn Mercury seeks to keep things simple; he’d rather focus on essentials than complex theories. Jupiter in Taurus also like to keep it real. The king of the planets finds pleasure in life’s small, ordinary moments.

In other news, Mars is traveling through Carpicorn, where the feisty red planet is both exalted and currently out-of-bounds. It can inspire a lot of drive to get things done, but also to break the rules along the way. If you find people’s requests sound harsh, try not to take it to personally.

A few hours after the Sun enters Aquarius, it’s followed by underworld God Pluto. Pluto will be hanging out in Aquarius until 2042, inspiring us to explore the dark side of ideology, algorithms, artificial intelligence, technology and collective action. Since it’s an 18-year passage, don’t expect big changes every day. Rather, expect issues surrounding how thoughts shape reality and collective experience to linger in the background of many other stories.

Best Approach to Aquarius 2024

Your best approach this Aquarius season? Keep things as simple as possible. There’s not much room for emotionalism, sentimentality or self-pity this season. The more you can be present in the moment, without worrying about the past or future, the more effective your efforts will be. Spend some time in mindfulness meditation and you may discover that allowing your mind to “pile on” with judgments and opinions often makes situations more difficult than they need to be. Just do what you can and let the rest go.

Non-attachment is not indifference. When you are indifferent, you don’t look at a person. You are walking along the street and somebody is dying of thirst, but you will not look at him. If you are non-attached, your inner being will compel you to give him a glass of water. But if he doesn’t drink it, you will not feel sad or angry.
