Capricorn Horoscope 2023

'Tis the season of the Goatfish, an impossible half-goat, half-fish creature. It's a weird metaphor for the human condition: we're always striving to climb upward but must learn to coax our watery emotions to cooperate if we want to get anywhere. Capricorn lessons teach grit,  determination and patience. They aren't always fun, but they are the royal road to self-mastery.

Each year, thanks to an ever-moving sky, Zodiac signs manifest a little differently. So, let’s dive into the astrological energies that set the 2023 Capricorn Season apart from other years.

(If you want to learn more about what the Zodiac sign Capricorn means in general, check out my post on how to Make the Most of Capricorn Season.

2023 Capricorn Season Forecast

Now let’s get into what sets this Capricorn Season apart from those in other years.

At the beginning of the 2023 Capricorn season, the Sun is heavily aspected. What does that suggest about the season? Well, a lot is going on to complicate the basic Capricorn desire to roll up your sleeves and just get it done.

First of all, the Sun is conjunct Mercury retrograde. During a retrograde, Mercury always returns to the Sun to get a “download,” so to speak. Consequently, retrogrades often turn our attention inward rather than outward. In the case of Capricorn season, it can suggest we’re more likely to want to plan rather than act. Keep your season simple. Get your life in order and start the new year with a clean slate; Mercury ends its retrograde on Jan. 1.

Need a little help with that? Then you’re in luck. The Sun’s in an easygoing sextile with Capricorn’s ruler Saturn. Saturn likes to edit, tend, shepherd and otherwise serve as a caretaker for what’s important to you. Make a list of the things that need repairing, and check them off one by one. You’ll feel lighter by the end of the season.

Of course, all work and no play will make for a dull Capricorn season. Fortunately, there’s little chance of that happening while the Sun is in a harmonious trine with the Moon, which is snuggled comfortably in Taurus. This is nearly the opposite urge to buckling down and getting it done; a Taurus Moon wants to chill, cocoon and luxuriate.

You’ll likely find striking a balance isn’t too difficult, given that the Moon’s nicely nestled next to Jupiter. Sure, Jupiter’s nemesis is excess, but that’s only because he’s such an advocate for finding the middle way that’s in perfect harmony with the cosmic plan. You may feel the urge to get serious, but your plans should include a healthy dose of self-care, too.

To keep you on the straight-and-narrow, there’s another caution light flashing as Mars approaches a tense square with Neptune in Pisces. Mars is our energy and constitution; Neptune disperses anything it tangles with. Together these two lead to sudden energy drains, throwing in the towel and, in extreme cases, burnout. If you’ve been burning the candle at multiple ends for a while now, you may find yourself doing nothing, despite your best-laid plans. It may be wise to just schedule extra downtime, than feeling guilty for not doing what you said you were going to do. Don’t worry, you’ll get your groove back when Mars moves into Capricorn on Jan. 4. In the meantime, listen to what your body is trying to tell you.
