2024 Libra New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse
Sep 29, 2024
A Libra soul's born knowing a cosmic secret: You need a mirror to make the world make sense. No, not one for navel gazing, but rather the mirror created by all the people who give your life meaning and purpose. The New Moon in Libra encourages us to make connections, so that we may see and understand ourselves more clearly.
But, this year, don't be surprised if you feel like your looking glass has turned dark and dim. With this Libra new Moon eclipsed, we're invited (encouraged? forced?) to take a look at our shadow bits. What you see as evil, wrong or deluded in the Other is often a reflection of what you don't want to see in yourself.

About the New Moon in Libra
The annual Libra New Moon occurs between Sept. 22 and Oct. 22. From the point of view of the Northern Hemisphere, summer ends and autumn begins. Harvest celebrations begin, as well as early preparations for the long winter ahead.
At its best, Libra appreciates the pleasures of life, celebrates love and family, and seeks to create a happy, balanced lifestyle (think Hobbits having a feast in their close-knit village.) Its biggest challenge is coping with expectations, especially when they are expectations of others. Remember, not everyone defines “happy, balanced lifestyle” the same way you do, and they may not play the roles you’ve assigned to them in your “perfect world.”
And so the Libra New Moon is a great time to consider how your desires shape your life and your relationships. What do you crave? How do your yearnings shape the choices you make, how you behave, and especially how you relate to the “others” in your life? If you understand your deepest desires, you’ll understand yourself on a whole new level. And, when you can direct your desires, you can shift your life’s course consciously.

Libra New Moon 2024 Forecast
First off, the 2024 Libra New Moon is an Annular “Ring of Fire” Solar Eclipse. Eclipses are often associated with inner, shadow work. That’s because during a solar eclipse, the Moon blocks out the light of the Sun, casting a Shadow on the Earth. Since the Sun symbolizes vision, vitality and consciousness, when its light is dimmed, our intentions often lack power or clarity.
Traditionally, it’s not a good time to do manifestation Magic. However, it may be a fruitful moment to do some inner work. In a sense, it’s a cosmic “dark night of the soul”; turning within can lead to some much-needed psychic insight. When Libra’s involved, that means it’s definitely time to own up to what you project onto others.
A South Node eclipse suggests that something is moving away from our our field of experience. South node eclipses may lead to goodbyes, losses and grieving. Though such moments are not always easy, you may find solace in knowing that what’s lost is going to create some space for something new to be born.
When the eclipse occurs, the Moon is slightly further away from the Earth, which creates the halo “ring of fire” effect. That means the Moon is also moving slightly slower than usual across the night sky. Slow moons are near their farthest place from the Earth in their orbits. That suggests some objective detachment (maybe even non-attachment) is needed in your daily affairs. Take it slow, and don’t get caught up in other’s drama. That’s easier to do when you realize other people’s stories are not your own.
The eclipse will appear close to the planet Mercury. When Mercury visits the Sun, it’s receiving its downloads for the next few months. The eclipse is also widely square feisty Mars in Cancer. The red planet brings the grit and determination to wait out there difficult times. However, in watery Cancer, Mars can feel surly and defensively aggressive. Rather than acting out on frustrations, it may be best to “embrace the suck” until the situation improves.
The Libra eclipse’s ruling planet, sometimes called the Lady of the Eclipse, is brilliant Venus. However, the Love goddess is in Scorpio where her sweet nature is at odds with the intensity of the Scorpion. She’s also in what astrologers call a grand water trine that Mars as well as strict Saturn in Pisces. Typical water trines make usually make it easier to go with the flow, but that’s probably not so this time. Venus is already struggling, an alignment with both malific planets won’t make it easier. If things feel impossible or heavy, or your heart’s desire unreachable, remember it’s just a moment in time. All things change.
In other celestial news, a retrograde Uranus in Taurus harmonizes with retrograde Neptune in Pisces and retrograde Pluto in Capricorn. This slow-moving alignment suggests mundane events are fueled by some deep, subconscious beliefs and concerns. Resist the temptation to blame superficial causes; there’s likely some deeper pattern at work which will not fully come to light until months (or even years) pass.
There’s one more tool in your kit: the New Moon falls in the 15th Lunar mansion Al Ghafr. I nicknamed it the Scribe. The image for Al Ghafr is an awning that covers a booth in a marketplace. It’s the perfect time for the hustle and bustle of marketplace trading. Running errands, clearing out inboxes and other negotiations are auspicious in this mansion.
Best Approach to 2024 Libra New Moon
The 2024 Libra New Moon Annular Solar Eclipse is complex and deceptive. On the surface, it may seem things are chatty and easygoing. But look beneath the surface and you’ll find a morass of anger, fear, frustration, grievance and other shadowy bits. If you’re working with others, don’t be surprised if hidden or unacknowledged agendas are driving words and actions. It’s another great opportunity to work with shadow. If that’s not your cup of tea, feel free to sit this one out.
