2024 Sagittarius Full Moon

Sagittarius Full Moon 2024

The Sagittarius Full Moon is a call for purpose and mission in the midst of Gemini seasons "it's all good" philosophy. Given Gemini's point of view that everything is relative, the Archer reminds us that the human psyche also needs "meaning" to make sense of our experience.

However, all Sagittarius Moons are not created equal. And this 2024 lunation heralds a reminder that every new beginning is also an ending. It's like graduation time. You may find you'll want to make some time for goodbyes before you embark on your next big adventure.

About the Full Moon in Sagittarius

We encounter the annual Sagittarius Full Moon each year between May 20 and June 20. In the northern hemisphere, days are approaching their maximum length. We yearn to be out and about, exploring what the world has to offer.

Full Moons are energy-charged moments. The Sagittarius Full Moon is Gemini season’s desire to perceive turned into action. It’s hopeful, optimistic, willing to take risks, even explore the unknown.

But, conversely, it’s easy to overdo it. We can pile more on our plates than we can eat, literally or figuratively. It’s also prone to exaggerations and tall tales, especially if we’re carried away with the expansive sensation. Dreams are good, but so is Truth (and figuring out what that is, is the real journey).

So how do you make the best of the Sagittarius Full Moon? You’ll need to navigate the paradox between expansion and balance. It feels good to expand, but too much expansion and things burn out too quickly to accomplish something useful. Sagittarius is mutable, or changeable, fire. Think of it as fire that’s constantly self-adjusting to find the burn that’s “just right.” There’s wisdom in finding the middle path.

2024 Sagittarius Full Moon Horoscope

For the third Full Moon in a row, the Sun and Moon are both tangling with under-worldly Pluto. It’s as if a Shadow hangs over their journey; fear and shame and guilt may simmer just below the surface. But Pluto can also herald and opportunity to dig deeper into those feelings and discover what truly makes you tick. Confronting your inner darkness could be one of the most healing discussions you’ve ever had with yourself.

Take your time, though. The Full Moon in Sagittarius is moving slower than normal because it occurs near the furthest point from Earth in its orbit. (It’s sometimes called a “Mircomoon,” since it also appears smaller in the sky.) This helps us to slow down. Be deliberate and reflective in your decisions and actions. It may also feel like things take longer to come to fruition; patience is your ally.

The Sagittarius Full Moon is also coasting further south in the sky than normal (i.e. it’s out of
bounds), another reason it’s not playing by the usual rules. You may find you’re more willing
to get outside your comfort zone or act out of character (for you) in some other ways. Or, you
may experience it as a potent urge to turn within and explore the depths of your own psyche.
It can be a powerful moment to explore what’s motivating you to act the way you do.

Meanwhile, Sagittarius’ ruler Jupiter is about to complete his year-long journey through earthy Taurus on a sweet note. The jovial planet meets up with lovely Venus a few hours before the Full Moon, one last kiss before both move into Gemini. It’s final “so long and thanks for the memories” tone for the lunation, that may leave some willing to make their own goodbyes.

What about the Moon’s lunar Zodiac sign? The 2024 Sagittarius New Moon falls in the 19th Lunar mansion Al Shaulah. I nicknamed it the Stinger, after the sting in the tail of the Scorpion. Its no-nonsense energy sharpens the powers of discernment. It’s excellent for identifying the truth of the situation. There’s little interest in small talk when the truth shall set you free.

Make the Most of the 2024 Sagittarius Full Moon

So, what’s the short version of all this? Well, the typical happy-go-lucky Sagittarian Moon may feel a bit slower, more soulful and bittersweet. If you’re setting off on a new adventure, you must say a few goodbyes. In this in-between moment, you may even feel suspended between the old and the new.

If you are wise, you’ll make time for a little self-reflection or even shadow work. This will start moving quickly again soon after this Full Moon. A little time invested in understanding where you would like to go, may save you from being dragged along by circumstances.

"If you are brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello."
