About the New Moon in Sagittarius

The annual Sagittarius New Moon occurs between Nov. 22 and Dec. 21. No matter what faith tradition you’re from, for many that’s a holiday season. From the point of view of the Northern Hemisphere, the days keep getting darker and darker. Our holiday celebrations comfort us that, yes, the light will return.

And, the New Moon is hopeful and optimistic. But, conversely, it’s a month in which it’s easy to overdo it. We can pile more on our plates than we can eat, literally or figuratively. It’s also the season of exaggerations and tall tales, especially if we’re carried away with the expansive sensation. Dreams are good, but so is the truth.

The secret to success under a Sagittarius New Moon is to find the balance point between your desire to expand, and the need to stay in balance. Sagittarius is mutable, or changeable, fire. Think of it as fire that’s constantly trying to self-adjust to find the burn that’s “just right.” There’s wisdom in finding the middle path.

Sagittarius New Moon 2024 Forecast

The Sagittarius New Moon is coasting further south in the sky than normal (i.e. it’s out of bounds), another reason it’s not playing by the usual rules. You may find you’re more willing to get outside your comfort zone or act out of character (for you) in some other ways. Or, you may experience it as a potent urge to turn within and explore the depths of your own psyche. It can be a powerful moment to explore what’s motivating you to act the way you do.

This Sagittarius New Moon also moves slower than usual across the night sky. Slow moons are near their farthest place from the Earth in their orbits. That suggests some objective detachment (maybe even nonattachment) is needed in your daily affairs. Take it slow, and don’t get caught up in other’s drama. (Hint: That’s easier to do when you realize other people’s story is not your own.)

Another vote for slowing things down, this New Moon is squaring off with ponderous Saturn Finishing up his three-year crawl across oceanic Pisces, Saturn has been learning how to stay grounded no matter what the weather brings. A square with the New Moon is an excellent reminder that when you find delays on your road, keep calm and carry on.

However, there’s an opposing temptation to race ahead anyway provided by a fiery trine from Mars in Leo. Mars always wants to get up and move. So, don’t be surprised if you feel that inner tension between “should I stay or should I go?”

Also upping the ante, an out-of-bounds Venus in Capricorn trines zany Uranus in Taurus. Uranus is always eager to try something new, a desire now encouraged by Taurus’ ruler Venus’ desire for a walk on the wild side. But different isn’t the same as direction, so you may find you need to sit still long enough to use your intuition to find a way through.

Alas, the New Moon’s ruler Jupiter isn’t providing much assistance. He’s feeling especially scattered in Gemini; all directions seem equally interesting to him. Without his innate sense of direction, you may find yourself either lost in the woods or remaining still but anxious that you should be doing something.

There’s just one more tool in your kit. This New Moon falls in the Lunar Zodiac sign aka Lunar Mansion 20 Al Na’am. I’ve nicknamed it The Hunter, since it reminds us of the focus a successful hunter needs to stalk her prey. For many, it may just be the hunt for the perfect gifts, but the energy can go deeper if you allow. Ask yourself the tough questions, and pursue the answers.

One final interesting observation. Right now, no planets possess essential dignity – that’s the power granted to planets because of the signs the planets are located in. In other words, all the planets lack “oomph” to make waves in the physical world. If you feel like nothing is getting done, or no one is responding to your requests, that may be a reflection of this odd pattern. The thing is, there’s not much to be done until the planets shift to other signs. Practice patience.

Best Approach to 2024 Sagittarius New Moon

Stir it all together and you’ll find a complicated brew of conflicting desires. Sagittarius New Moons are often seen as a time to plan your next great adventure. But you may find drive and caution in equal measures, as well as confusion about which direction to head on your quest. Your best bet may be to create some space within yourself to contain all the options. Plus, remember not to make any permanent changes until your direction is clear once again.

“You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.”
