About the Full Moon in Aries

We encounter the annual Aries Full Moon each year between Sept. 22 and Oct. 22. It’s sometimes the closest Full Moon to the fall equinox which makes it the Harvest Moon. Farmer continued to bring in crops into the evening hours under the illumination of this slow-rising bright Moon.

Of course, all Full Moons are energy-charged moments, and the Aries Full Moon is no different. As the Moon’s in a Mars-ruled fire sign, many may feel a “bias for action” -- the desire to do something, rather than waiting for the right time. If you’re not barreling forward on your next project, your mind might label the energy “irritation” or “anxiety” and act accordingly.

But, given that it’s Libra season, we’re all still being invited to make allowances for “the Other” in our lives. In other words, it’s not always about you.

Aries Full Moon 2024 Horoscope

The 2024 Aries Full Moon is heavily aspected, increasing the tension in the lunation.

Mars, the ruler of the Full Moon, is squaring off with both the Sun and the Moon. And unfortunately, Mars in Cancer is in the sign of his fall, so he’s not on his best behavior. This creates an incredible drive to take action, even if it means throwing out the baby just to get rid of the bathwater. Mars in Cancer is also in what astrologers call a mutual reception with the Aries Moon. Many may feel they’re struggling with anger and frustration, especially when there’s no clear alternative for how to move forward. When counting to 10 isn’t working, you could always try counting to 100.

Pluto in Capricorn is also (widely) square the Sun and Moon. Pluto adds intensity to the already Mars-y agitation. It’s not just about will, but the will to dominate others that’s rearing its head. You may find that you need to dig deep to empower yourself; there’s a temptation to give in to those who yell the loudest. But, if you’ve been saying you need to learn to stand up for yourself, you may discover you are faced with a golden opportunity to practice.

Mars is also in a harmonious dance with Venus in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces, which astrologers call a grand water trine. The downside is Venus isn’t at her best in Scorpio either; and Neptune is, well, nebulous in any circumstance. In this case, the grand water trine is more likely to fuel Mars’ fantasies and persecution complexes rather than offer a clear vision forward.

I want to believe there’s a little ray of sunshine in this complicated mix. The Sun and Moon are also harmonizing with jovial Jupiter. Easy-going Jupiter aspects are usually like guardian angels on your shoulder. Only in this case, it’s more like a fallen angel, since Jupiter is in detriment in Gemini. And so the usual helping hands may be too distracted by their own crazy to attend to you in yours. You may find you must pull yourself out of whatever hot water you’re in.

In the background of the lunar dance, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are in a harmonious alignment. It suggests there’s much moving beneath the surface of our conscious awareness. Whether seeds are being planted in the collective unconscious, or within your psyche, remember it takes a while for such things to rise to the level of ordinary awareness. In the meantime, dreams may be odd or we may feel extra tired as our inner resources process new information.

The October 2024 Full Moon is a Supermoon. That means it moves faster and appears larger and brighter than an ordinary Full Moon. Supermoons exaggerate and intensify everything else going on, for good or ill. Events are likely to unfold more quickly than usual. Keep your eyes open, you may need to rely more on your perceptual skills to make decisions; there may not be much time for contemplation.

Really, the most positive note in this mix is that the Full Moon falls in the 2nd Lunar mansion, Al Butain. I nicknamed it the Olive Branch. Its energy is ideal for releasing anger and diffusing conflicts. If you’ve been carrying around grudges and resentments, it's time to realize holding on is holding you back. It may be time to lighten the load. Given the rest of the chart, it may be your only choice left.

Once again, we’re having a complicated lunation. The 2024 Aries Full Moon is, in technical astrology terms, a hot mess. But on the positive side, sometimes you need a hot mess to begin the alchemic process of transmutation. The early stages may be uncomfortable, but if you do the work, you may discover that you’re much stronger than you ever imagined.
