2024 full moon in Pisces

The Pisces Full Moon is our annual reminder that Yoda is correct: "Luminous Beings are we, not this crude matter." Virgo can get mired in the details; a Pisces Full Moon is her reminder to look up at the wonder all around.

Still, not all Pisces Full Moons are created equal. The 2024 lunation is out of sorts and eclipsy. If you're sensing more whining than wonder, it's okay to opt-out of the drama.

About the Full Moon in Pisces

We encounter the annual Pisces Full Moon each year between Aug. 23 and Sept. 22. In the northern hemisphere, the Pisces Full Moon often does double duty as the Harvest Moon. Its long, slow rise along the eastern horizon extends bright light into the evening hours, allowing the crop harvest to continue well past sunset.

But the Pisces Full Moon does even more. All Full Moons are energy-charged moments, and the Pisces Full Moon is no different. As a Jupiter-ruled water sign, our imagination and desire to reconnect with Spirit shape our decisions and actions. Pay special attention to your dreams and other flashes of intuition, these often hold the answers to your deepest questions.

The secret to success under a Pisces Full Moon is to make time for your spiritual practice. It’s time to slow down, begin a meditation, dreamwork or journaling practice. All work and no rest will leave you feeling empty and uninspired. You need downtime to recharge and allow your natural creative spark to return and flourish.

Pisces Full Moon 2024 Forecast

This 2024 Pisces Full Moon is a Partial lunar eclipse. The Full Moon passes through the edge of the Earth’s deepest Shadow, briefly darkening the face of the Moon. Theoretically, the eclipse is visible over North and South America, Europe and Africa. However, the darkening of the Moon’s face is so slight, most observers may not notice the difference.

Consequently, this eclipse isn’t that much stronger than an ordinary Full Moon However, it still could be a night of odd dreams and experiences. If you can stay safe and rooted, it’s an ideal moment for shadow work or to explore altered states of awareness. But beware risky behavior, things could get weird very fast.

The September 2024 Full Moon is also a Supermoon. Since it occurs near its closest approach to Earth, that means the Moon moves faster, seems larger and appears brighter than a typical Full Moon. Tides run higher, too, does our need to get moving. Things may feel more intense, and events are likely to unfold more quickly than usual. Keep your eyes open, you may need to rely more on your perceptual skills to make decisions; there may not be much time for contemplation if you leap into action.

This Pisces Full Moon is also know as the Harvest Moon. That’s the title of the Full Moon closest to the autumnal equinox for a good reason. Thanks to some fun orbital mechanics, the Moon rises more slowly above the horizon and provides extended evening light to bring in the harvest. (If farming’s not your thing, it’s also ideal for evening socializing and long romantic walks.)

The eclipsed Full Moon travels along with dreamy Neptune. There’s no more potent signature of psychic flashes or compassionate sacrifice than this. However, the dark side of this Moon is also addiction and self-delusion. The best way through is to accept how you feel, let emotions wash over you if necessary, and then let them go.

Neptune’s also making easy sextiles with Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn. In history, it’s rare the three outer planets are so closely aligned (though it has happened several times in the 20th and 21st centuries). It’s often a signal of a deep paradigm shift in the collective unconscious. The energy is so subtle, it will take years for it to be felt in everyday life. For now, it’s merely a suggestion of a new possibility. This is especially true in how we relate to the Earth and the oceans, given that the planets occupy earth and water signs.

Jupiter is the traditional ruler of the Pisces Full Moon. Jupiter is continuing his journey through Gemini, where he’s learning that there’s more than one way to the truth. Jupiter is squaring off with both the Sun and the Moon, which makes his message of tolerance even more essential to the story. Jupiter is also harmonizing with Venus in Libra, who encourages him to choose the most pleasurable of the options before him. Many may escape into seductive delights.

Mirroring the Vigo-Pisces themes of this lunation, fleet-footed Mercury is Virgo opposing stern Saturn in Pisces. Mercury’s feeling optimistic in Virgo, eager to get on with The Work of bringing heavenly messages to Earth. Saturn, however, offers a pragmatic reminder to take things slow and steady. It’s a balancing act between over-stimulation and depression, but if you listen to your body, you will find your way through.

And finally, action hero Mars is debilitated and isolated sitting alone in Cancer. Usually, we need this energizer bunny to help us to keep moving forward. But at this lunation, his drive is turned toward gripe and grievance rather than action. There’s no easy solution beyond awareness. Check-in with yourself to discover if your actions are truly productive.

What about the Moon’s lunar Zodiac sign? The 2024 Pisces Full Moon falls in the 28th Lunar mansion, Al Batn al Hut. I nicknamed it the Fish. Its energy is ideal for gathering riches and resources. Decide what you need to take the next steps for your soul’s growth, wish upon the Moon, and believe the Magic will follow.

Make the Most of the 2024 Pisces Full Moon

The 2024 Pisces Full Moon Partial Lunar Eclipse isn’t likely to be remembered for bold initiative. Instead, it’s more likely we’ll see sour grapes and “I’ll-take-my-ball-and-go-home” attitudes. That’s because the twin forces of information overload and feelings of disempowerment are flowing just beneath the surface. Some may use it as an excuse to vent frustrations, while others just check out and escape into simpler, pleasurable pursuits. If the challenging energy is getting to you, remember you can opt-out as well. Take a restorative walk under the Full Moon, then get back to your task list once you have a clear head again.

“Pettiness is the tendency of people without large purposes.”
